So in case you're like me and you're not sure what those words mean, here are the dictionary.com definitions.
Singluarity:
Turns out there are several definitions to do with mathematics, complex analysis, and algebraic geometry. (Totally explains why I hadn't hear of it. lol) But none of these are the definition I'm looking for.
Transhumanism:
It's not in the dictionary. Hmm. Maybe that's why I hadn't heard of it.
What does Google have to say?
From Wikipedia: Transhumanism is an international intellectual and cultural movement that affirms the possibility and desirability of fundamentally transforming the human condition by developing and making widely available technologies to eliminate aging and to greatly enhance human intellectual, physical, and psychological capacities.
In layman's terms: The effort, usually through science, to prolong human life through organic and mechanical means.
Singularity:
Wikipedia has many varying definitions, but none are the one I'm looking for.
From Singularity.org: The Singularity is the technological creation of smarter-than-human intelligence.
In layman's term: When robots become smarter than people and no longer need them to exist and ensure the continuation of their existence.

Why did I choose to write books on these topics?
I watched a documentary on TV about how science is making progress on the effort to extend the human life span especially with genetic alteration. It got me thinking about how that would look globally if they succeed? Would everyone be able to do it and if not who would and who wouldn’t? How would it effect those who did and those who didn’t? Would people pursue this at any cost?
The PERCEPTION series is the result of these musings. The first book Perception, focuses on the pursuit of transhumanism. The driving need to chase technology ultimately leads to the creation of humanoids, and combined with the natural tendency for the powerful to become corrupt, well, it's not good...that's all I'm going to say. :-)
Perception is FREE(link) on Amazon and all other outlets until the release of book 2, VOLITION coming April 16!
How about you? What do you think about a future with progressive transhumanism and the possibility of singularity?

I've just read Clockwise and I absolutely adore your style and imagination. As a struggling writer myself, these past few months have really worn on my spirit, so taking the time to read your book has reminded me why I love storytelling's myself. Thank you. Along the lines of MadelineL'Engle your gift of story telling is very inspiring.
ReplyDeleteBlessings and best wishes,

Thanks for stopping by. I'm so glad that you've found inspiration from my book and will keep telling stories! (no worries about the repeat posts. I've deleted them).
DeleteElle, I'm happy I stopped by your site.
ReplyDeleteI've pinned Perception and will read shortly. It says that Perception is free on other outlets besides amazon. Can you post a link to any that has an epub version?
My fiction novel Memories With Maya has just been published a few days ago on the kindle platform. The story looks at emerging technology and how it (already) affects human personal relationships (even after death)
Do take a look when you can.
All the best for your upcoming book Volition.
epubs are available on Smashwords, kobo, Barnes & Noble, and I believe i tunes.
DeleteCongrats on publishing your novel. I hope it does well!
