I'm author ELLE STRAUSS and welcome to my website!

I write fun, lower Young Adult (teen) fiction to do with whimsical things like time-travel, fairies and merfolk.

When my serious side peeks out, she's called LEE STRAUSS. She likes to write upper YA about real things that have happened in the past, or made up things that could quite possibly happen in the future.

This blog is about books, mine and other fab authors', but occasionally I'll share about other topics.

What Matters Remains

Four years ago a good friend of ours died. Henk Boesten was a good husband, a good father and a good friend. It was hard to say goodbye.

It's easy to forget what really matters in life, especially when we get so crazy busy with our stuff. I know I do. Every once in a while it's good to be reminded that life is short, to slow down and smell those proverbial roses, whatever that looks like to you.

Last year Henk's son, Nico, had a dream about his dad. It was a profound dream which included these words of wisdom: What matters remains.

Nico wrote a song. Then he told the story. Both videos are here. Stop for a moment, take a look and a listen. Breathe.

You'll be glad you did.

  5. I can only imagine the strength it took to write this song and share this story. Having lost a parent, many years ago, it still aches to think on her.

Very beautiful song and such an overwhelming story behind the song.

    1. So true. I haven't lost a parent so I don't know what it's like, but many of my friends have.

I hope you don't mind if I quote your last sentence on Twitter?

  7. So beautiful. Funny how dreams can touch us so much. I had dreams of my father dying three days before he did, and then one final one afterwards. I don't remember the ones before but the one after still haunts me to this day. He simply said to tell everyone that he was all right, in good hands. I will treasure those "last minutes" together forever.

  8. Thanks for posting Elle. Still is wild to see the different ways this song and story connect with different people on different levels.
