A change is as good as a rest, but a rest is good too. And if you can have a change and a rest, all the better!
I’m back after a week long break. If you’ve been following my blog for a while, you’ve probably notice that every time I unplug, I come back with a new look. What’d ya think?
I don’t plan on making changes when I take a break—my only thoughts are on having a rest. We all know how much time social networking takes. Even though we love it, it’s a time eater. Not just the hanging out part, but planning and writing and posting blogs every day just takes time.
So when I take a break, I’m just looking forward to using that time to do other things like write. And read. And clean my house. And sleep.
By the end of the break I find I’m really eager to get back to my blog and my writing community. Instead of thinking, man, what am I going to blog about, I get a fresh wind. That’s usually about the time I look at my blog and start fiddling with changes. This time, I felt like I needed to lighten things up.
So, what’d I do on my break? I worked diligently on my Ancient Rome wip (which I’ve recently titled JARS OF CLAY). Even though it’s not an official nano project I’m hoping to get done or near done by the end of the month.
How about you? Do you find that taking regular breaks helps you to rejuice? Or do you find that taking breaks fizzles your momentum?
Taking breaks is hugely important for my sanity ... need I elaborate!

ReplyDeleteLove the new look and I'm totally with you...Breaks are good. I took a break from blogging last month too and did the same thing...Completely remodeled my site. But hey...we're women...we change clothes ten times before we settle on something and rearrange furniture like men change underwear...wait...that may not be the best example... :)
ReplyDelete(Sorry about deleting my comment the first time...you'd think a writer would proofread.. :D
Wendy and Charissa- glad you like the new look, thanks for dropping by!
ReplyDeleteI like the new look, too! Change is so fun. As are breaks! I'm excited to go visit family for Thanksgiving and unplug for a little while. I'm glad your break rejuvenated you.
ReplyDeleteTaking breaks definitely helps recharge me. I like the new look. It reminds me of fall and winter in Portland, rainy! LOL! I love the sound of the novel your working on and can't wait to hear more about it.
ReplyDeleteSara - thanks!
ReplyDeleteHeather-- yeah, the wip is interesting, I'm sure I'll reference it in the future! The first 250 words are in the archives.
Coming up on a blog break, with Thanksgiving on the horizon. Every solo blogger needs one, I think.
ReplyDeleteLike the new look. Not too busy. Easy on the eyes.
kathryn -Thanks. Enjoy your blog- holiday!
ReplyDeleteSince I don't post on a regular schedule, I consider everything between posts a break. :) What I find I do need a break from every now and then is trying to keep up with my blog reading. It can be exhausting sometimes!
ReplyDeleteDL - The thing about blog reading is that it's supposed to be fun--something you want to do, not something you should do. Once you've moved into the I Have To realm, it's definitely time for a break! Balance is key. It's okay not not read everything and everyone all the time.
ReplyDeleteI find a break of a few days can be helpful but if I go more than that I get out of the habit and might not get back into it for another 3 months or so. I try to keep things on a regular pace, keeps me motivated and thinking about the task at hand.
ReplyDeleteI think the month of Nov. has been a blog posting break for me..Nano. I break from nano by blog reading and house cleaning. And I'm better at blog reading than house cleaning. HA!
